In the beginning... was the command line
In the beginning... was the command line
Starting anew, fresh again, after the Last Battle. The past two weeks in Salamanca were trying. I enjoyed the Festival, saw a few supposedly world-class plays (will specify as soon as I fish the programme from wherever the hell I put it, you know I'm crap at remembering names of directors and actors...). Then I spent a week painstakingly correcting tapes, then two days trying to instill some feeling of solidary comradeship into a fellow interpreting lecturer who had not corrected them.
And now I'm in Paris. I've spent two days making love, then reading a book by Pierre Lévy on Cyberculture for my PhD. Tesiseando. Yan is cooking Asian today, then he's off to theatre rehearsals. His last play was great; there are still two more he's working on. Tonight, a barbecue chez des amis by the Seine.
Have just read Zodiac, by Neal Stephenson. I loved it, but this has nothing to do with what I want to say today.
And, as I have just 15 minutes to take my pyjamas off and become beautiful before leaving, I will have to tell you tomorrow.
French little bisous,
M.

Y aún diría más
Go see...
L'âge des ténèbres.
Honeydripper.
Be Kind, Rewind.
The Darjeeling Limited.
Buddha Collapsed out of Shame.
Death at a Funeral.

From September 17th to 21st 2008 the European Social Forum (ESF) is being held in Malmö, in the South of Sweden! More than 20 000 people are expected to participate in the forum, which is a meeting place for social movements in Europe.
- Cultural activities for another Europe
The European Social Forum (ESF) is by far the largest European space for organisations, movements, networks and individuals engaged in building a more sustainable, democratic and equitable society.
Tens of thousands of activists and a broad range of organisations come together to share experiences, debate ideas – and not the least to formulate proposals and to build new alliances for mobilisation and effective action. ESF is about changing – not merely to contemplate the situation of today.
Among the participants are trade unions, migration networks, environmental organisations, feminist organisations, the global justice movement, peace networks, human rights organisations, academics, youth organisations – and many more.
* Are you an organization involved in cultural activities and wanting to organize an activity at the ESF? Then please contact us at kultur@esf2008.org and describe who you are and what you want to do. We will then get back to you with more information.
* Are you an artist/poet etc. willing to perform at the ESF, or a director of a relevant documentary willing to come and show it at the ESF? Then please contact us at kultur@esf2008.org and describe who you are and what you want to do. We will then get back to you with more information.
And, last but not least...
Interpretation is a crucial task for an international forum, and to make the debate as diverse as possible. Everyone should have the possibility to take part and contribute to the discussion on global justice on equal terms, even if you speak a minority language or a non-colonial language.
Around 600 interpreters are needed during the ESF in Malmö. The interpretation will be arranged with the support of the Babels network that was formed in the preparations for the first ESF in Florence 2002, and now we are developing the Nordic branch of the network.
Besitos.
Que os he echado de menos, además. Sois mi inspiración ;-)
